What are these black spot, where did they come from?
Black deep dot on the surface of cashew kernel:
These black deep dot is usually caused by male mosquito in cashew fruiting period. As the outer shell is still thin, the male mosquito is able to pierce the outer shell with its proboscis to take out the nutrition. This result in a black deep dot on both outer shell and inner kernel.
Insect damage
these damage is
usually not found on the exported kernel, as they are strictly controlled
(under AFI Standards) and was limited up to the maximum of only 0.5%.
In case you find them, they should look like this:
As the outer shell of cashew nut is really strong and sturdy,
the insect will not be able to tear through these shell. The insect damage is
done from the inside. Their eggs were laid on cashew flower in the flowering
period. When the nuts are formed, these eggs are already inside. The last and
also easiest step is getting out of the eggs and begin to damage the kernel, which
result in the damage as above pictures.
